Dr. Sarah Portway
University of New York at Oneonta (SUNY Oneonta)
Dr. Sarah Portway (she/her) is an Associate Professor, Program Coordinator, and Internship Coordinator in the Fashion & Textiles Program at the State University of New York at Oneonta (SUNY Oneonta). She holds a Ph.D. in Fiber Science and Apparel Design from Cornell University (’18), a Master’s in Fashion from Ryerson University (’12; now Toronto Metropolitan University), and a B.A. in Fine Arts with honors from the University of Guelph. Portway combines her academic expertise with ten years of experience in the fashion industry, having worked with brands such as Burberry and Le Château. Dr. Portway has received prestigious funding for her work, including two awards from the Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), and has been part of a research team that earned two SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grants (IITG). Dr. Portway’s high-impact, innovative, and technology-driven teaching methods earned her further recognition in 2024 when she received the SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association’s Outstanding Current Faculty Award, and in 2022 when she received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
